Established in 1990, Merribuild is a family-owned, full service construction company specializing in new home construction, kitchen and bathroom remodels, full house remodeling, home additions, garage conversions and ADUs. They work on a fixed-price contract, keep clients updated through an online portal with progress photos and billing, and back their work with a workmanship warranty.

Paul and Sean run the kind of shop I like sending clients to: fixed-price contracts, a real online portal where you can see progress photos and what you have paid, and a family business that has been building in North County since 1990. Paying for the project
This is where I come in. Three ways my clients fund the work, and one bill to see coming.
Fixed-rate HELOC
Pay for the ADU or remodel from your equity without touching the rate on your first mortgage. Draw as the build progresses and pay interest only on what you use.

An ADU or addition gets reassessed when it is finished, and the county sends a one time supplemental tax bill. Know what is coming before it lands.

How a project with Merribuild moves from first conversation to keys in hand.
Initial conversation and ballpark estimate
Talk through your ideas, get your questions answered, and walk away with a general idea of cost and timeline.
3D design and feasibility report
Your ideas become a 3D design you can walk through. You review it in their office, make live edits, and get a feasibility report plus an exact dollar amount for the build.
Architect, structural and permits
The longest phase: architect, structural engineer, Title 24, surveys and city permitting, typically 4 to 9 months depending on the city. 20% of the project is split into 6 monthly payments during this phase.
Build
Builds typically take 3 to 6 months and start within 2 weeks of permit approval. You are billed weekly for completed work, and your warranty begins when you get the keys.

Paul and his crew are fantastic! They are easy to work with, understood exactly what we were looking for, and made updates without any fuss when our selected appliances didn't exactly fit. All of the workers he had in our house were kind, respectful, and felt like a welcome part of the family by the end of the project.
They were friendly. They listened to our comments and concerns and changed what we wanted. They were easy to reach and very reasonable. We wanted wood flooring taken out and replaced with tile which was not in the original contract and they accommodated without charging an arm and a leg. They originally did our master bathroom and we were so pleased that we had them redo our kitchen as well.
Working with them was hassle free. From designing the new space, to final inspection, they met all of our deadlines, created our dream space, all at a reasonable price. We'll definitely be hiring again for our future projects!
